FAQs

Answers to the questions I get asked most. If yours isn't here, get in touch.

What do you cover?

I photograph and film CrossFit competitions, HYROX and HYROX simulation events, throwdowns and functional fitness comps. I can also shoot everyday training at your gym if you want fresh content.

Where are you based, and how far will you travel?

I'm based in Taunton and cover the South West, including Exeter, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil. I'm happy to travel further for the right event.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel within 20 miles of Taunton is included. Beyond that, it's 45p a mile, and I'll always quote it up front.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how long the event runs and what you need. My day rate is £350, and we agree in advance what you'll get from the day. That could be photos only, video only, or a mix of both.

Do you need a deposit?

Yes, a 50% deposit secures your date, and the balance is due 7 days before the event.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can, especially for weekends in the busy comp season, but it's always worth asking if it's sooner.

Can you cover a two-day event?

Yes. I've covered weekend comps with different divisions on each day, and I'll quote for both days together. Depending on the location, there may also be accommodation costs.

What do I get?

It really does depend on what media you're looking for and what you're going to use it for. Usually it's a full edited photo gallery, but I also do video, from longer roundup videos to short highlight reels.

How quickly will I get the photos?

It depends on how much media you've asked for, but I aim to turn around photos and highlight reels within 24 hours. A longer video takes a little longer.

Can you send some photos on the day?

Yes, I can send a handful of quick edits during or straight after the event so you can post while everyone's still buzzing. Just let me know beforehand.

Will every athlete be photographed?

I work hard to get every heat and every competitor, but I can't guarantee a shot of each person. Things like lane positions, the schedule and where I'm allowed on the floor all play a part.

Can athletes download their own photos?

Yes. The gallery link can be shared with competitors so they can find and download their photos.

Can we post the photos on social media?

Yes. You and your athletes can use them on social media and your websites, as long as they aren't filtered or edited and I'm tagged on social media.

Can our sponsors use the photos?

Yes, but sponsor or paid advertising use needs agreeing in advance, so mention it when you book.

Who owns the photos?

Copyright stays with 3DOG Media, and you get a licence to use them as described above. I may also use some images to show my own work.

What do you need from us before the event?

A completed pre-shoot questionnaire and the final schedule at least 7 days beforehand. It helps me plan around your gym, the workouts and the moments that matter to you.

What about consent, especially for under-18s?

Please let competitors and spectators know the event will be photographed and filmed. Tell me about anyone who doesn't want to be featured before we start.

Our gym is quite dark. Is that a problem?

Not usually. I use professional equipment that handles low light well, and I'm used to shooting indoors in gyms with mixed lighting. If it's useful, I'll ask about the venue lighting in advance.

What happens if the day runs late?

If it runs past the agreed finish time, I'll stay on, and the extra time is charged at £50 an hour.

What if we need to cancel or postpone?

If the event is postponed, I'll move your booking to the new date if I'm free. If you cancel, the deposit is non-refundable, and cancellations within 14 days of the event are charged in full.

Do you also work with GD Media?

Yes, I'm part of the GD Media team in Taunton. 3DOG Media is my own work focused on CrossFit and HYROX events.
